Laminated glass is a kind of Safety glass which is widely used in glass doors, glass windows, high building external glass walls, shopfronts, etc. Most of Laminated glass consists of Annealed glass pane, plastic interlayer, annealed glass pane, while very special laminated glass, as the enhanced safety laminated glass consists of toughened glass pane, plastic interlayer, annealed glass pane. When one side of the glass pane is toughened glass, you can not cut the laminated glass of this type.
How to cut a laminated glass? (the cutting condition is that laminated glass has both side panes being annealed glass) Someone may ask a glazier to help because a customer has a broken laminated glass and he wants to re-use it.
Cutting a laminated glass is not easy. In general, two ways of cutting. 1st is solvent softening based way. 2nd way is put solvent along the cutting line, then setting fire Using solvent softening way, First you need to cut one side using your glazing knife, then gently break this side. Turn the other side of the pane on cutting table, then you need to cut a line which is exactly matching the opposite side line, and gently force it break along the cutting line, and pour Methylated Spirits along the cutting line, wait for 1 or 2 minutes, start to lift up and press down, bend your pane, with the MS–Methylated Spirits helps in melting or softening the interlayer, you will eventually make the laminated glass being cut off. The 2nd way, the similar cutting processes, only different is the last step, after you pour solvent along the cutting line, you set fire, then the fire with solvent will melt the interlayer.
