Our Mirror Products Used In Sculpture Exhibition in Artwork “Infinite Worlds To Dream Of”—Artwork by SJ Blake

This work looks at different environments of the past, present and future island (Waiheke). Each model landscape is reflected in mirror segments expanding the scene into a circular and potentially infinite worlds- looking at how our actions and care or Dis-care for the land multiply. We jump between ‘dystopian’ and ‘Utopian’ scenarios. Looking at: pest control, development, working bee, planting, monoculture farm land, Kiwi introduction, destruction through apathy/greed, Native bush expansion. No complete human figures feature in the landscapes and I invite viewers to imagine themselves in each scene, and dream of which world(s) they wish to inhabit. The model evokes an old automaton/ curiosity, a magical device from another realm to draw viewers into a childlike state of wonder to then uncover currents of a menacing or beautiful nature. (The word ‘infinite’ in the title is used with irony as natural resources are finite and delicate, but our actions can ripple out like waves)

The piece is titled ‘Infinite worlds to dream of’ and made in 2025
